Blue, blue with cold,
How can they see and not protect you?
Oh, my God!

Tiny wounded feet,
Bruised all over by pebbles,
Abused by snow and soil!

Man, being blind, ignores
that where you step, you leave
A blossom of bright light,
that where you have placed
your bleeding little soles
a redolent tuberose grows.

Since, however, you walk
through the streets so straight,
you are courageous, without fault.

Child’s tiny feet,
Two suffering little gems,
How can the people pass, unseeing.

Those Who Do Not Dance Gabriela Mistral http://www.shortpoems.org/poem/those-who-do-not-dance-gabriela-mistral/ http://www.shortpoems.org/poem/those-who-do-not-dance-gabriela-mistral/#comments Fri, 14 Mar 2008 16:26:54 +0000 tejvan http://www.shortpoems.org/poem/2008/03/14/those-who-do-not-dance-gabriela-mistral/ A crippled child
Said, “How shall I dance?”
Let your heart dance
We said.

Then the invalid said:
“How shall I sing?”
Let your heart sing
We said

Then spoke the poor dead thistle,
But I, how shall I dance?”
Let your heart fly to the wind
We said.

Then God spoke from above
“How shall I descend from the blue?”
Come dance for us here in the light
We said.

All the valley is dancing
Together under the sun,
And the heart of him who joins us not
Is turned to dust, to dust.

I am Not Alone Gabriela Mistral http://www.shortpoems.org/poem/i-am-not-alone-gabriela-mistral/ http://www.shortpoems.org/poem/i-am-not-alone-gabriela-mistral/#comments Tue, 29 Jan 2008 20:18:28 +0000 tejvan http://www.shortpoems.org/poem/2008/01/29/i-am-not-alone-gabriela-mistral/ The night, it is deserted
from the mountains to the sea.
But I, the one who rocks you,
I am not alone!

The sky, it is deserted
for the moon falls to the sea.
But I, the one who holds you,
I am not alone !

The world, it is deserted.
All flesh is sad you see.
But I, the one who hugs you,
I am not alone!
